Elder John Leland-Interpretive Sign  Cheshire, Mass.

Erected June 10, 2016

On June 8th I left Ohio in a rented pickup truck hauling a beautiful interpretive sign dedicated to the memory of John Leland. In Emmaus, PA. I met Gary Stinnett  and we loaded his tools into the truck and continued our journey toward Mass. Pastor Aaron Rodgerson flew in from Missouri and met us in Mass. The marker was erected on Friday, June 9th, downtown, near the Cheese Press monument and right on the Appalachian Trail. The current, and a former long-time pastor (of the church Leland pastored) met with us, as well as the chairwoman of the Board of Selectmen in Cheshire. Gary and Aaron did a professional job and the town and the Baptists were very appreciative of the new marker. On Friday evening we held a ribbon cutting ceremony and dedicated the marker.

A special thanks to all who donated to this special project! We could not do it without you!

A small donation towards the cause of reviving and preserving our heritage would be greatly appreciated. All donations here will be directed into our Project Account.

200th Anniversary Marker

November 4th, 2017

In November of 2017 our society had the privilege of participating in the celebration of the 200th anniversary  of the old Grants Creek Baptist Church. Pastor Tom Smith and myself (Ted Alexander) preached a revival meeting leading up to the day of the dedication of the marker.  On Saturday we erected a 9-foot wide roof system marker on the front lawn of the church. After the dedication ceremony, we were treated to a special meal prepared by the ladies of the church. Delicious!

The 2×3 signs are durable, long lasting, high pressure laminate. They are high quality and are built to last. Gary Stinnett, pastor Aaron Rodgerson, and myself (Ted Alexander) worked on this project. It is trimmed with landscaping rock right out of the nearby Grants Creek!

The first sign relates the church’s founding and history. It also communicates the connection of this historic church to the famed wilderness preacher John Taylor.

The second sign is a memorial to the American wilderness preachers of bygone days.

Thanks goes out to Pastor Bujak. He is a blessed man to pastor a church this old that is still highly orthodox.
